August 6th-7th

What next...

The beetroot did well, although I had only put a few seeds in this year. All the beet is now out and I have made sweet and chilli chutney, have roasted the beet with goats' cheese, all so tasty.
The bed is now being used to plant more beetroot that I had germinated  the conservatory.

Small beetroot shoots, I hope they take to the ground.

Tomtaoes

Broccoli

Beans. Well, they have taken a long time to get to this stage. These are and supposed to be a yard long. At the moment nothing, and no flowers yet either. I may or may not be successful.

                                                      Lot more blackberries being picked...

and more courgettes....

Courgette and potato fritters are easy to make.

Courgette and potato fritters are so quick to make and don’t require any planning or prep work in advance.

¼ cup of all-purpose flour or garam flour

1 teaspoon salt,

1 teaspoon garam masala

I green chilli finely chopped – optional

Small handful of fresh coriander leaves

¼ cup vegetable oil

Method

Grate the courgette

In a large bowl, roughly mash the potato

Add all other ingredients and combine them well

Heat 1 – 2 Tablespoons of oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat.

Take a small amount of mixture in the palm of your hand and flatten to small fritter size.

Cook for about 3-4 minutes on both side until golden brown

August Courgettes and...

August 2nd

Doing well on courgettes. There is a lot that can be done with courgettes. Well, you can give them away to the neighbours, sauté them, fritter them, make a yummy courgette and cheese flan, freeze them or make the most amazing vegan courgette and chocolate cake.

I have done all the above and still have courgettes left !

In my version I added crystallised ginger and honey-roasted almonds.

Bergamot

At the bottom of our LG lots of blackberries are beginning to ripen. This is the first year we have seen them.

Then around the edge of the LG there are so many blackberries. The hot weather has really got them in abundance this year. So we have been picking.

And we have gladiolus, beautiful flowers that give us so much pleasure every year.

This is what we took home today. - the latest haul.
