2020

SO, decided to start this year, and what a year 2020 to re start this blog. From January to late February we had lot of rain, the grounds were all water logged. 

Made a visit to the LG on a cold January morning, and was taken by a horrid surprise, the whole area was covered in weeds, and it looked awful and lot of hard work to get it into shape. 

Decided to walk away from it all, and come back again another day.

The visit was made on:
January 18th 
and this is how it looked....

Did some weeding and managed to get one bed ready for planting, and so many more beds to tidy up.

After this visit came more rain, and that meant no more work at the LG until the weather improves.

We also now have coronavirus, which is going to mean we should not go out and self isolate, but can go to the LG as part of our excercise.


The next visit to the LG was on 

Sunday 22nd March

Lovely warm day, so we got going in tidying up further beds ready to put in some turnip plants.

I had started them from seed in a tray and propagated them in the conservatory.

All in, I just hope the shoots do not get eaten by the many predators that roam this place when we are not here to watch our plants. so I put a net on top.

I had some onion and broccoli seeds and decided to create a bed and put them, they may or may not take off.

Well here is my onion and broccoli bed.


There was lot of spinach and chard from last year that had overgrown, so decided to harvest that.

Picked a bucket full of chard and spinach, this will be cooked into saag tonight. How fresh can you get.
there was also lot of rhubarb that needed picking too.

Once home washed and chopped the chard and spinach and made saag with half of it and steamed and pureed the rest for the freezer for another day.

The saag loaded with butter, garlic and ginger was delicious.

Thursday March 26th

Due to the coronavirus we have all been advised to remain indoors. we decided to venture out today to do some more work on the LG. Lovely sunny and warm day, there were few other keen gardeners around working in their gardens.

It was just lovely and peaceful, could see and hear the birds all around us.

Cleared few more beds ready for planting.

I have got lots of different seeds in trays and pots at home, when they are hardy enough will put them in the soil.

So what have we seeded;

broad beans

peas

red and yellow beetroot

spinach

courgettes

squash

spaghetti squash

french beans

edamamme beans

No potatoes and garlic so far...

Coronavirus....has meant not being able to go to garden centre to purchase potatoes as they are now closed.
