September

15th September

Today we went to to the LG to do some hard labour. The flower bed was so overgrown with weeds, that my priority was to pull out out weeds and get it ready for the winter.

The sweetcorn, what was left is all eaten away, so that bed needs clearing, the beetroot is all ready to be pulled out.

The bean plants are ready for the compost and plenty of weeding and preparation ready for winter is now due and todays' task.

All overgrown.

Almost done, but not quite.

The ground is soft today after the recent rains, so it is not too difficult to de-weed.

This the bed is where we had a good crop of turnips. Prepared now for winter garlic and winter onions.

And todays harvest is good one again...not much to harvest now.

Three pears from our dwarf pear tree.

Box full of apples, they are ready for juicing into apple juice with fresh ginger and maybe carrots.

The last of the beetroot.

What a colourful harvest for this September.

6th September

We have had some rain, the whole place is so overgrown. Today we just did some harvesting, even though so much needs doing.

Some squash, a sweetcorn that managed to survive the predators, couple of yellow courgettes, tomatoes, apples and a one pumpkin.
The pumpkin must weigh about 16kg and that will be taken to the Hindu Mandir.

August another harvest

August 21st

Everything so much overgrown and today was a tidy up time.

Spinach gone to seed.
Sweetcorn took off really well and grew to be healthy plants.

Looking good

Someone else also like the sweetcorn

Enjoying my sweetcorn, is it mice or squirrels
I will never know who the predator is attacking my sweetcorn. They are peeled through the layers and eaten when no human is around.

Squash ready for soup

These squashes are doing well

Artichoke flowers look so colourful and beautiful

Borlotti Beans

So fresh and delicious beans

Yellow and red raspberries

Apple and pear tree. the apple tree is full of fruit. This is the first year,

The pear tree has about 6 pears on it.

Strawberry bed has gone feral

This is the asparagus bed. It's in the second year, it will be another two years before we can harvest asparagus.
Due to lack of rain this season, the soil is so hard to dig. Well, it has to dug and the weeds have to pulled out.

August

August 16th

Since the last July visit, we have not been able to make visits to the LG.
Today's visit quite surprised us, despite the weather being unusually hot for this time of the year, managed to get a small harvest.
Much of the garden is just covered in weeds and more weeds. Lot of hard work needed here soon.

In one bed I planted brown chick pea, just to use up the bed. They grew pretty quickly and did not require lot of water to flourish.
Today the chick pea pods were ready to harvest. Instead  of just picking the pods, you just have to pull out the plants when the pods are ripe.

Today's harvest.

July

July Harvest

It has been almost a month since we have been to the Leisure Gardens. Most of May, June and July has been very hot. There is lack of water at the LG.
Despite that some plants have been doing ok. Managed to pick some beans, beetroot, a squash, chard, a yellow courgette and plenty of mint.

The apple tree planted last year is doing good.

Loaded with apples, wow...
